My name is Marly. I'm a social worker by trade and I was introduced to scuba diving in 2019. My brother convinced me to try diving so I went to Oahu and got certified. I heard humpback whales singing on my checkout dives and I was hooked!
Diving very quickly became my happy place, my safe space and a place of calm. My PTSD always seemed to be more manageable with extended time under the water. Diving is grounding and requires the practice of mindfulness-- paced breathing and being in the here and now. It also puts you in the sunlight and is exercise, something so many humans are lacking.
I have always said that diving is therapy for me. I aim to bring it to as many others as I can!
I am partnered with Lifewaters and I Dive 2 Live to bring diving to disabled Veterans and First Responders. We work with individuals with ALS, paralysis, amputations, PTSD and more! If you have been wondering if diving is something you can do, please reach out to me. I never thought I would get past snorkeling, and now, I'm an instructor!

Baitball that engulfed us, from a shore dive. Fish tornados are unreal.
Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins say hello. We saw a 14' tiger shark right after.
I almost always have a camera on me to caputure the magic
Unique fish all around the island. Many of which are endemic
On my first dive post certificate, I ran into a seven gill shark in La Jolla Cove. Since then, I've taken a liking to sharks. I even have a leg sleeve with the incredible sharks I have encountered (tigers sharks, whale sharks, oceanic white tips, great hammerheads and even nurse sharks).
