Meet "Marlos"!
Carlos is a Navy Veteran who quickly got involved with adaptive diving to help other veterans find the peace of the ocean like he had. Marly discovered the healing powers of scuba when she noticed a drastic improvement in her PTSD symptoms after dive trips. She is a social worker who was convinced there had to be a way to merge social work and scuba diving. Carlos introduced Marly to adaptive diving while they were working in the Florida Keys.
In May 2023, Carlos was helping with an adaptive DSD in the Miami area and connected with Lifewaters. We spoke with the VP about crossing over to SDI to be able to not only certifiy divers of all abilities, but to create Scubility Buddies who can support these divers.
In August 2023, we went on a trip to Cozumel with Lifewaters. We had an absolute blast with our adaptive diver as well as everyone else that was on our boat and staying at the resort. Shortly after we got home, we were able to support the Lifewater's Hero Dive in the Florida Keys. We were blown away by the story of all our Veterans who participated.
We had an opportunity arise in Hawaii that we couldn't refuse. We reached back out to let the VP know we were going to be moving but we wanted to remain involved. Luckily, 2024 was the year Lifewaters was arriving on the Island of Oahu (shout out to Sea Lancers )! We were asked to be an extension. A milion times yes!!!
Before leaving the Keys, we trained several scubility buddies with Conch Republic Divers (hands down, best dive shop in the Keys, shout out to Ashley!) to support adaptive divers in the area.
We are all settled on Hawaii Island and partnered with Aquatic Life Divers to make dreams come true! We will be certifying Scubility Buddies on the island to create more support!
Let's talk and see if we can support you in your dream of scuba diving!
